~Hey Everyone! I’m Back and I DID IT! All 60 miles and - even through the rain with wet socks and shoes - NO BLISTERS! I must admit it was tough crawling out of my wet tent at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, the morning of Day 3, into 40-degree darkness, but the 3-Day is not meant to be easy! It’s meant to be challenging physically and emotionally. AND IT WAS!!!!

Thank you all for your encouragement and prayers! I believe in the power of prayer! The blister prayers were heard, but as most of us know, God does have a sense of humor, so the rain had to come!!!!

Let’s pray that with the funds raised by the 1,600 Michigan walkers ~ $4.4 Million ~ there WILL be an end to BREAST CANCER!!!!!

Special thanks to Michael, Carol and Jaylyn, for spending many hours of your precious weekend (BOTH Saturday and Sunday) cheering on myself and all of the walkers! Your support and generosity always amazes me! To Lisa P. and Lisa J. for the wonderful welcome home signs leading me all the way up the hill to my house - you guys "Rocka-Rocka" too! I cannot tell you how much it meant to me!!!! The sight alone, made me forgot how tired I was last night!!!! And to Kaity, Lexy and Milton for the wonderful cards, decorations and pink roses! You guys rock!

I will be updating my 3-Day web site this weekend and sharing with you pictures of the event as well as diary entries introducing you to some of the most amazing people I met along the route! Everyone had their reasons for walking and some of them were absolutely heart-wrenching! We are all so blessed! Quite an amazing 3 days! I'll let you know when the website update is complete!!!

Every mile did make a difference! ~Kelly

~ Hi Everyone! I can't believe the 3-day is almost here! I want to thank all of you for your generosity and support! To date, you have raised $2,565.00 to fund this cause and help save lives through early detection of breast cancer! I will be flying to Detroit on Wednesday, in order to be up bright and early for Day Zero, Thursday. The walk begins Friday, August 20th. For my local sponsors in Michigan, please be sure to click on the "Diary" link at the left and check out the 3-Day Route, as well as Cheering Station locations. Luther has been the best training buddy - but I want to also thank all that have walked with me, especially my biggest supporter, my mooch ~ Kaity!... I hope and pray that I remain blister-free again this time -- and please hope and pray that the rain will NOT happen! God bless!

Welcome to my 2004 Michigan 3-Day page! I have dedicated this page to my Sponsors! Your support means so much to me. Your involvement doesn't have to end once you've written your check! I've created this page to keep you updated on my progress as I train and prepare for Michigan's Breast Cancer 3-Day, August 20-22,2004.

As many of you know, I participated in the inaugural Michigan Breast Cancer 3-Day in 2002. With the help of my generous sponsors, I was able to raise $3,150 to fight breast cancer! In 2004, the Breast Cancer 3-Day is back and I have made a personal commitment to raise $3,500!

Why am I so committed to this cause? Because I have been extremely blessed - my close friends and loved ones have not been touched by this horrible disease. Because I want to help those who have. Because I want to give of myself and make a difference.

I know we don't want to think about it, but the fact is, each of us has a 100% chance of having breast cancer touch us personally at some point in our lives. 1 out of 9 women will fight a personal battle against this disease.

I am walking for these women - our mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, grandmothers, cousins and friends - with the hope that if any of us are ever diagnosed, we will survive.

I am walking for my daughters, Kaitlin and Alexia, hoping and praying that through the efforts of so many, their future is one without the danger of this life-threatening disease.

I am walking for all the women who can't and for all the women who have breast cancer right now and don't even know it - I am walking for those One Million women!

On August 20th, I will embark on my second 3-day journey, walking 20 miles a day, rain or shine. I will be sleeping on the ground in a tent - all of you know this "camping detail" is going to be challenging for me in itself! I will be showering in trucks, using portable toilets (used by thousands and thousands of others) and walking, and walking and walking. I am sure I will be sore and exhausted and have my share of blisters. However, whatever discomfort I endure on this journey will be temporary - the results of my efforts ~ life-lasting! Knowing I am helping those with undetected breast cancer find out and survive will keep me going when I feel as though I cannot take another step.

The slogan of my 3-Day is "Walka-Walka" ~ you may be wondering "why"? Well, when Kaitlin and Alexia began teetering on their tiny little legs (each at 10 mos. of age), I encouraged their first steps with welcoming arms and my motivational song "walka-walka" ~ it just seems so appropriate for my upcoming journey. I hope they'll reciprocate at the finish line!

In the coming weeks, I must be walking up to 45-50 miles per week in order to be able to complete the 60-mile walk in three days. I am committed to walking across the finish line on August 22nd, having walked every one of the 60 miles - all in order to celebrate the generosity and compassion of my sponsors and help save lives!

Please bookmark my page and visit often! Check out my links page for more information on the event. You will also find diary entries, training and fund-raising updates! Once I have completed my 3-Day journey ~ I will tell you all about my experience right here!

Please don't forget to sign my Guest Book ~ words of encouragement are greatly appreciated! I would also appreciate it if you would pass this page on to friends and family you feel may want to help.

I will be walking in honor of afflicted friends and loved ones and I will walk proudly in honor or memory of someone close to you. Please let me know and I will display their name alongside those of my sponsors on my 3-Day event t-shirt, which I will wear on Day 3.

I want you to share this experience with me! And I hope to see my Michigan sponsors at St. Mary's College in Orchard Lake on Sunday, August 22, 2004 at the Closing Ceremonies! It will be one of the most emotionally moving experiences you will ever be able to share with thousands of others hoping to make a difference!

Please come back and visit, I will be adding event route information when it becomes available. I will post the "Cheering Station" locations a few days before the event - hope to see you there!

Thank you,

Kelly
